SÍLVIO MEIRA

Emeritus Professor at the UFPE, with a Doctorate in Computing from the University of Kent at Canterbury (England/1985). He was a researcher at CNPq for more than 15 years; created and coordinated the Doctorate Program in Computer Science of the Federal University of Pernambuco; he was a member of the first steering committee of Internet/br and president of the Brazilian Society of Computing. He served as a consultant for the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program, and was one of the founders of the Center for Advanced Studies in Recife (Cesar) and Porto Digital (Digital Port), a hub for information technology and creative economics, recognized internationally for its excellence.
He was awarded the National Order of Scientific Merit (1999) and the Order of Rio Branco (2001) by the President of Brazil, having been ranked by Info Exame magazine among the one hundred most important people in information technology in Brazil.
