Conference enters the debate about new technologies for Digital TV

Not so long ago, the main focus in discussions about Digital TV was the search for evolution in video and audio quality. The new technologies are now demanding other requisites that aim to offer the user a unique experience, mixing the resources of a traditional TV, with digital content and even machine learning-based recommendations.

“Following the analog-digital transition, free-to-air TV needs to continue integrating new technologies so as to continuously offer what’s best, not just in video and audio quality, but also by integrating new personalization resources so as to adapt to the changes in people’s habits”, says engineer Liliana Nakonechnyj, member of the Council of Former Presidents da SET.

A professional recognized worldwide, with a solid career dedicated to implementing TV signal distribution systems in ground-based transmission stations, contribution and distribution systems via radio, satellite and fiber optics, Liliana has also been responsible for engineering support for the television stations affiliated to Rede Globo. For over a decade, she has participated in the tests to introduce digital television in Brazil. She will be moderator on the panel “Next Gen: New Technologies for Digital TV”, which runs from 3:40 pm to 5 pm on August 26, during the 2019 Set Expo Conference.

The largest technology, media and entertainment business event in Latin America and one of the world’s largest, SET EXPO will be held from August 26 thru 29, at the Expo Center Norte Convention Center, in São Paulo.

Besides Liliana, the panel will have as co-chair Luiz Fausto de Souza Brito, strategy and regulatory affairs specialist at TV Globo, who, among other roles, is also part of the working group on Harmonization of the ISDB-T International Forum.

According to Liliana, technology professionals have always leveraged the evolution of Brazilian TV and the expansion of Digital TV. And SET EXPO can make an enormous contribution to advancing these discussions. “The time has come to plan the introduction of the future generation and, to that end, we need to be up to date. Nothing better than sharing in the knowledge of the international experts who will be at this session, describing how to advance the development of the technologies that will enable the installation of the next generation of free-to-air TV in their countries”, Liliana concludes.

This will be the 31st Technology, Media and Entertainment Business Conference staged by SET. The entity expects to attract 2,000 attendees, who will watch over 50 panels and 200 talks over the four days of the event.

The program schedule includes topics on radio and audio; AV contribution and infrastructure; innovation and disruptive technologies; content production; audiovisual distribution and regulatory and standardization issues.
