Immersive Audio Production

Immersive audio comprises a set of technologies and creative possibilities that promises to take audio to a new technical and creative level. Through the three-dimensionality and use of sound objects, finally it is possible to bring a new and accessible sound experience to the viewer, in several devices including soundbars and headphones. With tests being done in Brazil in the most diverse types of content and important discussions being held internationally with regard to standards, the panel's goal is to give an overview of the experiments done in Brazil, the main technologies used and some ways of producing content with immersive audio.

Chair: Rodrigo Meirelles - Executive Supervisor of Audio - TV Globo

He holds a degree in Electronic Engineering and Computing, Recording and Phonographic Production and has a Masters in Education and Media. For 16 years in the audio market, he began his career as an engineer in music production studios in Rio de Janeiro, in maintenance, installation and projects of audio recording studios, he was an instructor and founder of the ProClass training center, a pioneer in official certifications In Pro Tools and Avid in Brazil, and in TV Globo, was responsible for the area of post-production from 2009 to 2014. Today he is responsible for the Entertainment Audio Production area (Estúdios Globo). He was a university professor for 8 years teaching courses in Phonographic Production, Audiovisual Production, Radio and TV and Graduation in Cinema.

Dolby Atmos

The presentation will make a timeline of Dolby Atmos's Open TV, Pay TV, VOD and OTT tests, advancements and achievements in Brazil and Latin America.
We'll see the workflow adopted using Dolby encoders, DPs 590/591.
To finalize an update of the discussions in the ISDB-Tb forum regarding the DOLBY codecs.

Speaker: Giovanni Asselta - Solution Engineer at Dolby Latin America

Giovanni Asselta was Coordinator and University Professor between 2001 and 2008, responsible for the following disciplines: Technology in Radio and TV; Advertising Production in Radio and TV; Cultural Production and Studio Techniques (Music Recording). Between 2008 and 2015 he was an Audio Supervisor at RECORD TV and since 2015 he is a Solution Engineer at Dolby Latin America.

Transition to MPEG-H TV

In May 2017, the worldwide first UHDTV broadcasting service using with the MPEG-H TV Audio System, a Next Generation Audio codec, was launched in South Korea. Now the system is in regular operation for more than one year and in the meantime the leading terrestrial broadcasters have tested the different formats available. It is the perfect time to do an intermediate summary and report about the experience made during the first year. Starting from the necessary modifications to integrate the MPEG-H TV Audio System into the existing infrastructure and operating it with legacy formats (stereo and 5.1 surround), this paper will describe the different phases of the transition to the full usage of the feature set of the MPEG-H TV Audio system.

Speaker: Stefan Meltzer - Business Development for TV Broadcast Applications - Fraunhofer IIS

Stefan Meltzer studied electrical engineering at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen, Germany. From 1990 to 2000 he worked at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) in Erlangen Germany. After his time at Coding Technologies and Iosono as well as an independent technology consultant, he re-joined Fraunhofer IIS in 2018 and is now in charge of business development for TV broadcast applications.

AVID Solutions

The presentation will address the integration of technologies to work with immersive audio in Avid solutions.
The partnership between Avid and Dolby to improve post-production workflow at ATMOS, and the ecosystem of third-party solutions to work in this format.
ATMOS immersive audio in post and live broadcast, the peculiarities of each scenario.
What is the difference of working with various immersive formats within Pro Tools, as Ambisonics, Auro-3D and MPEG-H.

Speaker: Eduardo Andrade - Commercial Director and Solution Specialist for the Audio segment in Brazil of Avid Technology, Inc.

Eduardo Andrade is a musical producer and sound engineer and is currently Commercial Director and Solutions Specialist for the Audio segment at Avid in Brazil. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, he worked in Los Angeles in the Gray Martin post-production studios, serving customers such as HBO, MTV and VH1. In 2007, Eduardo returned to Brazil and, in Rio de Janeiro, he worked on several projects as a mixing and recording engineer, sound track composer and musical producer. In 2013, he was nominated for the Latin Grammy for his work with Ed Motta in AOR and with Skank on Live at Rock in Rio 2013. Over the years, he has worked with major artistes like Ana Carolina, Luiz Melodia, Capital Inicial, Bill Cobham, and Guto Goffi of Barão Vermelho. In addition, he has also participated in post-production projects for movies and television programs for Discovery Channel, TV Globo, Multishow and Lereby. In 2016, he worked with Ale Siqueira in the musical production team for the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and he has also worked with Dolby on projects that break down the barriers to the implementation of ATMOS technology, with its first-ever internet transmission.
