Evolution of the big date, new technologies of artificial intelligence and natural language processing, public data opening, massive use of social networks. These are the ingredients that lead to the use of Data Science for Journalism. In this panel we will discuss the technologies and structures necessary for the implementation of a data journalism environment.

Electronic Engineer by UFRJ and M.Sc in Digital Signal Processing by Coppe / UFRJ, having the area of ​​video compression as a research topic. He has been working in the Research and Development / Innovation area of ​​TV Globo's technology since 2000, where he currently serves as the sector manager. In 2002 he worked in the research center of Japanese TV NHK conducting research with the H.264 compression standard, in the occasion in the stage of standardization. Passionate about new technologies and innovation management, with many years of experience in software development, today leads a creative team that conducts research and projects mainly in the areas of signal processing, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, computing, electronics and IoT

Data visualization and the Web

By allowing access to huge amounts of data in real time, the Web has enabled the emergence of unprecedented data visualization experiences. This talk will give a brief introduction on the subject of data visualization, and show a selection of examples that use the power of the Web to reveal data through interactive graphs and maps. We will also discuss the main technologies, tools and services that can be used to create interactive visualizations for the Web.

Speaker: Helder da Rocha, Consultant and Instructor - Argo Navis Technology and Art

Helder da Rocha writes, teaches and lectures on Web technologies since 1995. He holds a MSc in information technology from the Federal University of Paraíba, has authored books on HTML and JavaScript, and dozens of tutorials on Java technologies, HTML, JavaScript, XML, systems architecture, electronics and Arduino. He is currently writing a book on data visualization with D3.js (Packt Publishers, 2019). He is also a visual artist (scientific illustration and sculpture) and has works in science exhibits in Brazil and Portugal.

Technology as key to combatting fake news

Using artificial intelligence, Aos Fatos shows with Fatima project how technology can be used to combat fake news and disseminate fact-checking for who really matters: those exposed to misinformation daily.

Speaker: Bárbara Libório, Editor - Aosfatos

Bárbara Libório is a investigative data journalist, editor at Aos Fatos. She was part of the economic coverage teams of large brazilian vehicles: Exame.com, iG, Folha de S. Paulo and IstoÉ. Since 2016, has been working at Aos Fatos, the first fact-checking brazilian vehicle. She began as a reporter, covering the impeachment of former president Dilma Rousseff, the municipal elections of 2016 and the political crisis in 2017. She is also a deputy editor of Canal Meio.
