Panel debates new developments in NHK transmission technology

Recognized worldwide as one of the greatest names in communications engineering because of his FAMED knowledge, engineer Fernando Bittencourt will be the moderator on the panel “Research & Development – STRL NHK (Japan)”, which will run from 9:20 to 10:40 am on August 29 during the 31st Technology, Media and Entertainment Business Conference to be held during the largest technology, media and entertainment business event in Latin America.

Bittencourt, a member of the council of former presidents of SET, also has a seat on the deliberative council of the SBTVD Forum and international entities such as the IEEE, IBC and SMPTE. Along with him, the panel will consist of two other names: senior research engineer of the STRL laboratory of NHK, Kohei Kambara, and Carlos Eduardo Cosme Ribeiro, of Globo,  a member of the technology and R&D team.

The theme of Kambara’s talk is “NKH Open House – taking media beyond the little box”. The NKH Open House is an annual event at which a large audience is introduced to broadcast technologies and services under development at STRL.  It is divided into three themes: reality imaging, connected media and smart production. The aim of reality imaging is to create spatial experiences beyond a heightened sense of presence and reality. Connected media aims to enhance the user’s experience with internet technologies, while smart production will enable the delivery of precise and rapid information to everyone by using artificial intelligence.

In his talk, “TV 3.0: Research initiatives at ETRI and opportunities in Brazil”, Ribeiro will draw on his experiences from visiting ETRI (The Electronics and  Telecommunications Research Institute) in South Korea during the first half of 2019. The talk will deal with the research undertaken at the institute and which draws on the ATSC 3.0 format, and which proposals can be applied in Brazil.

The SET Conference expects to attract 2,000 attendees, who will watch over 50 panels and 200 talks over the four days of the event.

The program schedule includes topics on radio and audio; AV contribution and infrastructure; innovation and disruptive technologies; content production; audiovisual distribution and regulatory and standardization issues.
