FM in Mobile and Radio in Car Panel – Pathways to the Future of Radio

This panel will discuss two major fronts of radio evolution: the CELL and the CAR.

As the smartphone is virtually the universal device for media consumption, it is absolutely strategic that the radio is present in it. Ironically, most cell phones have the FM reception chip, however, only a minority have this reception activated. Having noticed this, the NAB began a campaign to activate these chips. At the same time, the NextRadio hybrid radio model was launched on the American market, bringing together FM audio reception with 3G / 4G internet metadata reception. The first part of the panel will be dedicated to this theme and the presentation of the American case.

In the second part of the panel, we will discuss the prospects for the radio in the car, particularly in the connected car. The new infotainment systems offer not only the AM / FM radio but also multiple other options for consumption of audio content via 3G / 4G internet. Understanding this ecosystem and how the entertainment and information platforms in cars are evolving is also absolutely strategic to the radio.
