SET EXPO maintains business volume in spite of the economic crisis

With heavy traffic in the corridors over three very intense days, the SET EXPO Products and Services Trade Show brought its 2016 edition to a close on Thursday, September 1, with the participation of over 14,000 visitors from Brazil and overseas at the Expo Center Norte in São Paulo.

The 150 exhibitors representing about 400 global brands revealed the latest developments in the industry. “The expectation of business deals, reported by the exhibitors, tops US$ 40 million, a similar volume to last year in spite of a retraction of 10% in the net area of the trade show”, Claudio Younis, SET Marketing Director explains.

This year saw a lower number of exhibitors occupying smaller spaces, as they are the most affected by the recessive economic scenario; nevertheless, the substantial participation by large exhibitors enabled us to maintain a wide variety of brands at the trade show”.

Several very satisfied exhibitors indicated an increase in the number of decision makers present at the trade show. Another aspect noted was the increase in the presence of representatives from the countries of Latin America. “SET Expo is an international benchmark for companies supplying technology and services to the broadcast and production markets in Brazil and it is growing year by year as the hub for Latin America”, Younis adds.

The figures also indicate that, in spite of the crisis, the multimedia audiovisual production and broadcasting industry is going from strength to strength in Brazil, driven by changes such as the switching off of the analog TV signals and the migration of radio signals from MW to FM.

“The spread of ultra-high definition (UHDTV) equipment and service, both the production and the transmissions of pictures and sound, present on a good many stands at SET EXPO, is another important factor in the success of this year’s trade show,” the SET executive points out.

The 4k and 8k technologies were the highlight of the 28th SET EXPO Technology Conference, which saw an increase of around 25% in the number of delegates.Panels about the future of Free-to-Air TV and the experimental 8k transmissions during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games Rio attracted professionals from TV broadcasters, producers, engineers, students and researchers.

“We are looking to the scenario for 2017 with optimism. With economic growth expected to pick up again, and given the new ideas we have in the pipeline, we’ll have an even bigger SET EXPO”, he concludes. Next year, the event will occupy the Red Pavilion and the Expo Center Norte Convention Center in São Paulo, between August 21 and 24.
